Job Responsibilities:
General Ledger & Accounting Operations
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts with a focus on accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
Financial Reporting
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP).
- Support regulatory reporting requirements, including NAIC quarterly and annual statement filings.
- Contribute to internal and external audit processes, providing documentation and analysis as needed.
Insurance-Specific Accounting
- Support the accounting for unearned premium reserves, loss reserves, reinsurance, and policy acquisition costs.
- Work closely with underwriting, claims, and actuarial teams to ensure accuracy of financial results.
- Assist with reinsurance accounting, including ceded premium and recoverable reconciliation.
Process Improvement & Special Projects
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, increase efficiency, and enhance financial reporting.
- Support system implementations, upgrades, or enhancements (e.g., general ledger, sub-ledgers, reporting tools).
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives, including financial planning, audit readiness, and regulatory changes.
Job Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, as well as CPA or progress toward certification, is strongly preferred.
- 3–6 years of accounting experience, ideally within the insurance or financial services industry.
- Solid understanding of GAAP; familiarity with statutory accounting (SAP) and NAIC reporting is a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with accounting systems (e.g., Workday, or similar) and proficiency in Excel.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
