Underwriter (Remote)

Title: Underwriter
Location: This position will be a remote position in the West region. The candidate must be located in: CA, CO, NV, AZ, UT, WA, WY, OR, MT, NM or ID.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with brokers and clients to enhance communication and collaboration.
  • Underwrite business within the parameters set in the agreed-upon underwriting authority document.
  • Perform general underwriting functions, including underwriting submission reviews, pricing analysis, and setting of policy terms and conditions up to our agreed authority limits.
  • Underwrite and price high-net-worth personal lines risks across the Western states. Experience in CA, OR, WA, and MT preferred.
  • Seek input from Actuarial Department to price specific accounts when appropriate.
  • Liaise with Claims Department on any specific claim activity.
  • Utilize knowledge of automated systems to develop information for new and renewal business.
  • Stay current with respect to major industry issues and developments.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of how to evaluate complex wildfire exposure and familiarity with the Western WUI and high-severity zones.
  • You understand the critical nature of your relationship with the brokers and clients we serve. You are strategic and thoughtful about the decisions you make to win over brokers and clients.
  • You have a sense of urgency around resolution, keeping the agent and/or client informed and following up in a timely manner.
  • You work collaboratively with the entire team and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • You take pride in and ownership of providing service within the company's established guidelines for timeliness, quality, and effectiveness.
  • You happily perform other duties as required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in High Net Worth insurance underwriting.
  • Recent experience in the western states (AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, WY), with admitted or E&S solutions in the high-net-worth personal lines space, is preferred.
  • Technical underwriting knowledge and skills reflective of progression in positions of increasing responsibility.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must strive to provide service levels that exceed industry standards and demonstrate teamwork across functional areas.
  • Possess the aptitude to work in a highly competitive market, be innovative in business production and retention, and be able to adapt to changing markets and internal requirements.
  • Curious, proactive, and adaptable mindset. Must be able to think creatively.
  • Strong time management skills, being able to prioritize, and handle multiple tasks.
  • Resourceful and results-driven with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products and internet research tools.
